Why buyers decide before they ever call you
Alicia Hicks · September 9, 2026
Most of the buying decision happens before a prospect reaches out. Here is what they look at, and what to do about it.
Your next client has already made most of their decision before they contact you.
They saw a post. They read a newsletter. A peer mentioned your name in a group chat. Then they searched for you, found enough to feel confident, and reached out already half decided.
That is not luck. It is a process, and it can be run on purpose.
What they actually check
- Whether you publish anything that shows how you think
- Whether other people talk about you
- Whether your website matches what they were told
- Whether an AI assistant mentions you when they ask for recommendations
What to do about it
Pick the two places your buyers already pay attention to and show up there every week with something useful. Consistency beats brilliance. Six months of steady, specific, human content will out-perform a single expensive campaign nearly every time.
